Dad Gifts: Stocking stuffers part deux

We thought about categorizing this as gifts for DIY ladies but they’re good quick gifts for anyone, so don’t be sexist.

Let’s get to it.

Knee Pads

Trust me, you don’t realize you need knee pads until you’ve been kneeling down for hours helping a friend put down a room full of tile. You’re kneeling on a hard surface with no padding there. It’s bone, skin, floor. That HURTS. Another little bit of advice? If you’re buying knee pads for your wife, don’t make the obvious knee pad jokes, grow up.

Hearing Protection

Construction makes noise. Nail guns, hammers, sliding compound mitre saws, and power sanders are LOUD. It doesn’t even have to be construction, summertime tools make noise too. Lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed whackers, etc, can all do long-term damage to your hearing. Sadly, I was never one to really care about any of that, but I should have because I’m sure my hearing is screwed.

Irwin Quick-Grip Bar Clamps

Irwin Quick-Grip Bar Clamps

These are some of the best things I own. I probably use them every day. Not always for construction purposes. Sometimes I just need to hold the cutting board to the countertop when I’m carving a turkey and it’s sliding around. Trust me, they have a ton of uses and they come in crazy-handy.

Mechanical Pencils

Mechanical pencils, leads, and graph paper

This was going to be 2 separate items on the list but this post is stretching the gift idea post genre pretty far already. The graph paper is for sketching, and mechanical pencils are just awesome (I like .7mm lead). One click for always-sharp lead? Yes, please. And graph paper is one of the most handy things you can have around. It’s good for sketching up workbench plans, drawing a room to scale, or drawing wireframes for a website.

Tape measures

Tape measures

You can honestly never have enough tape measures. Every time you go to the store just buy a tape measure. In this case, buy a giant multipack. You’ll need them because if you’re anything like me, you lose them. I don’t know where they go, but they’re gone, and that’s that.
